Exactly. The mere fact that you are here – along with thousands of other colleagues – reflecting on the challenges posed on the Problems page and starting with scientific data constructively questioning how we can address them brings us closer to the Solutions than at any time in the last 10 years.

But there are also many other elements that make this a worthwhile effort:

• The initiative – There are no precedents of “TranslatorSpaces”, i.e. Web Spaces created by translators and for translators, without any dependence on other industry stakeholders (LSPs, existing Marketplaces, Trade Associations, Software providers, etc.) – set up with the sole purpose of researching and promoting solutions to the problems affecting this profession.
• The communication – We intentionally chose to avoid forums, social groups, mailing lists and any other forms of virtual or physical meeting (without, to be clear, having anything against all these l) just to allow people to freely propose their ideas, without being “conditioned” by regulations, netiquette and / or risk of getting bogged down in contradictions, which sometimes result in off-topic digressions, pointless controversies, misunderstandings, etc. To be able to freely give one’s own opinion, in a private and (for those who want) anonymous way, will inevitably generate a certain amount of utter nonsense, but – we are absolutely sure – also several strokes of genius.
• The method – A few simple questions, straight to the heart of the problem, aimed at collecting hypotheses of concrete solutions, which will be examined and categorized, to be then possibly subjected to subsequent phases of online brainstorming (during which they can be integrated and refined). If – as we hope – this collective effort will bring forth feasible solutions, the promoting team will implement them in an online platform, currently already under construction (for more details, see the timeline on the “Project” page).
• The promoters – A group of people with heterogeneous professional backgrounds (PMs, Translators, Resource managers, LSP managers, etc.), who have decided to give back what they have accrued in their careers, offering their time and experience (to examine every single contribution sent) – as well as an as yet unspecified amount of money (which has served and will serve to design, develop, maintain and promote all the Web environments in which the contributions made are collected, processed and – we hope – materialized).
• The goal – Achieve progress that is finally “human and professional” in an industry challenged so much by so many technological advances.
